    ENGINE DEPARTMENT

  • Engine Rating

Start Your Engineering Career at Sea.

What if your hands-on skills could take you to every ocean on the planet — and pay you well while doing it?

The engine room is where the real power of a ship lives. And the people who keep it running are in demand everywhere — from cargo ships crossing the Atlantic to tankers in the Persian Gulf to luxury yachts in the Mediterranean.

Our Engine Rating program gets you there fast. No years of study. No complicated entry requirements. Just focused, practical training that puts you on a working vessel in months.

    WHAT THIS PROGRAM GIVES YOU

✓ An internationally recognised STCW qualification towork in engine rooms on commercial vessels of any size, anywhere in the world.

✓ Practical skills: machinery operation, maintenance and repair, electrical systems, firefighting, emergency response and first aid.

✓ Paid sea practice on real commercial ships.

✓ A clear career path toward becoming a Marine Engineer officer.

    HOW IT WORKS

The program takes just 3–4 months. Study theory online from wherever you are, then come to Riga, Latvia for exams and hands-on assessments. After that, you head straight to sea practice on a real commercial vessel — and earn money from day one.

Everything is accredited by the Latvian Maritime Administration (EU), compliant with STCW standards, and supervised by the Latvian Ministry of Transport. Your certification is recognised and respected worldwide.

    WHERE THIS TAKES YOU

As a certified Engine Rating, you can work on vessels of any size in international waters. But the real opportunity? With enough sea time, you can advance to Marine Engineer — the officer who runs the entire engine department.

Important: the technical skills you gain here aren’t limited to ships. Graduates regularly find that their mechanical, electrical and systems knowledge opens doors in shore-based industries too — from power plants to manufacturing.

    WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

    • Perform watchkeeping duties
    • Monitor ship machinery and systems
    • Maintain and repair equipment
    • Safely use electrical tools
    • Communicate in English on watch
    • Use emergency and firefighting equipment
    • Follow ship security procedures
    • Provide first aid.

    WHO IS THIS FOR?

This program is perfect if you enjoy working with engines, machines and technical systems, want a well-paid career without spending years at university, like the idea of travelling the world while building real skills, or are a non-EU citizen looking for a legal EU training option.

    PROGRAM DETAILS

Duration: 3–4 months (including 2 months of paid sea practice)

    Minimum age: 16 years

Education required: Basic or secondary education

    Program fee: €1,500

Ships don’t wait — and neither should you. Every month you spend thinking about it is a month of sea time and income you’re leaving on the table.

    Marine Engineer

Run the Engine Room. Run the Ship.

You’ve been working in engine rooms. You know the machinery. But are you the one making the decisions — or following them?

The Marine Engineer license is the difference between being crew and being the officer who controls everything below deck. It means higher pay, more authority, and a career that keeps growing. If you’ve already put in time at sea, this program is designed to get you across that line.

    WHAT THIS PROGRAM GIVES YOU

✓ A Marine Engineer license for vessels with main engine power up to 750 kW — qualifying you for engineer officer roles in international coastal and inland navigation.

✓ Complete competency in mechanical, electrical and electronic systems on board: operation, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting.

✓ Skills in fuel and materials management, pollution prevention, safety systems and crew leadership.

✓ A qualification that opens doors to higher licenses and Chief Engineer roles.

    HOW IT WORKS

The program totals 1,920 training hours. Theory is online, with exams and practical assessments in Riga, Latvia. You’ll work with experienced maritime engineers in small groups, getting the kind of personal attention that a large academy simply can’t offer. Your qualification is accredited by the Latvian Maritime Administration, supervised by the Ministry of Transport, and fully compliant with STCW and STCW(F) conventions. It’s an EU-recognised credential that carries weight everywhere.

    WHERE THIS TAKES YOU

As a licensed Marine Engineer, you’re the person responsible for keeping the ship moving. You manage engine operations, lead the engine room team, plan maintenance, and solve problems under pressure. It’s a role that demands skill, knowledge and cool-headedness — and it’s compensated accordingly.

From here, your path leads to Chief Engineer — the highest engineering rank on board. And the technicalexpertise you build along the way is valued just as highly on shore, in industries like energy, manufacturing, and marine services.

    WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

    • Stand engine room watches and monitor all operating parameters.
    • Plan and carry out maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical and electronic systems.
    • Manage fuel, lubricants and spare parts.
    • Communicate effectively in English on all technical matters.
    • Prevent pollution and ensure environmental compliance.
    • Maintain vessel seaworthiness.
    • Fight fires and operate life-saving equipment.
    • Provide first aid.
    • Lead your team and ensure safety on board.

    WHO IS THIS FOR?

This program is for you if you’re currently working as a Motorman or engine rating, have at least 6 months of engine room experience on vessels with main engine power above 200 kW, want to move from crew to officer, or are ready to invest in a qualification that will pay for itself many times over.

    PROGRAM DETAILS

    Duration: 1,920 training hours

    Minimum age: 18 years

Education required: Secondary education + minimum 6 months engine room experience (on vessels > 200 kW)

Program fee: €2,800 (including Engine Rating program)

You already have the experience. Now get the license. The gap between what a rating earns and what an engineer officer earns is substantial. Every month without the license is money you’re leaving behind.
