Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties
(Mandatory for all seafarers)
ABOUT THE COURSE
Working on a commercial vessel requires more than professional maritime skills — every crew member must know how to ensure the safety of the vessel, the crew, and the cargo in any situation. This course gives you exactly that knowledge.The course is developed in accordance with the requirements of the International STCW Convention and is mandatory for seafarers carrying out ship security duties. Upon completion, you receive a certificate recognized by the Latvian Maritime Administration and valid on vessels under any flag.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
- Understand threats to ship security and methods for preventing them.
- Recognize suspicious behavior and abnormal situations on board
- Apply ship security procedures in accordance with the Ship Security Plan
- Act during inspections, searches, and in restricted port areas
- Use equipment and communication tools in security-related situations
- Comply with the requirements of the ISPS Code
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR
The course is intended for current and future seafarers whose duties include ship security — all officers and ratings of the merchant fleet. It is also suitable for those who are taking other MaritimeSkills programs and want to obtain the full set of mandatory STCW certificates.
TRAINING FORMAT
Theory — online, at your own pace
Exams and practical part — in person, in Riga, Latvia
Language of instruction: Latvian / Russian / English
CERTIFICATE
Upon completion of the course, you receive a certificate that meets STCW Convention requirements. The certificate is issued under the supervision of the Latvian Maritime Administration and is valid for work on ships in the international merchant fleet.
